Sculptures Projects

I'm currently auditing sculpture classes at UWLAX, and it's been a game-changer for my art. It's taught me the value of process—how every step matters—while also pushing me to get more creative, encouraging me to get more inventive and break free from traditional approaches. Below are some of the artwork produced during the Fall 2024 semester.

"Cats/Onça Pintanda" - Oil Clay Master (WIP)

(Sculpting Models) Oil Clay Master (oil-based clay) is a non-drying, pliable clay used for sculpting, mold-making, and prototyping. It’s ideal for creating detailed models or prototypes, as it stays workable without hardening. Artists use it to sculpt figures, prepare molds for casting in other materials, and add fine textures or surface details. Its long working time makes it perfect for refining and adjusting designs over time.

"Red Amazon Piranha (Fish)" - (WIP) Two Parts Plaster Molds and Slip casting

The process involves creating 2-part reusable plaster molds to later cast clay slip. The focus is on developing a deep understanding of clay moisture levels, which affect its texture and surface impression from soft to hard states. While the final product is a ceramic cast, the true artistry lies in carefully engineering the mold. Boxing structures made from materials like wood, foamboard, or thin metal/plastic are used to contain the liquid plaster as it sets.
